Australian free-to-air broadcaster Nine has acquired rights to the 2023 Ashes cricket series, which will take place in England. The deal with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will grant Nine exclusive rights to the series, which will feature Tests at Edgbaston, Headingley, The Oval, Lord’s and Old Trafford.

Nine also held exclusive rights in Australia to the 2019 Ashes series, which was held at the same five venues.

The Australian pay-television operator Foxtel recently extended its rights deal with the ECB. The deal, which runs until 2023, covers 12 tours of England featuring the likes of India and South Africa but will not include the Ashes. The new deal with the ECB follows the expiry of the two parties’ previous four-year agreement.

Nine announced the launch of its new streaming service Stan Sports earlier this month following its acquisition of Rugby Australia domestic media rights. The service will launch in 2021 as a separate paid product and has also secured three-year deals to show Wimbledon and the French Open tennis grand slam tournaments.
