With more than dozen Covid-19 positives in the team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has now also lost the services of their vice-captain Suresh Raina who will not be available for the tournament because of personal reasons and has already returned to India.

CSK, led by MS Dhoni, was to to play Mumbai Indians (two of the tournament’s most successful teams) in the opening game of the 13th edition of IPL 2020 in an earlier released schedule by BCCI, but now the board has decided to change the schedule to give CSK more time to recoup from the ongoing crisis in their camp.

CSK must now go into quarantine for the next 6 days and can’t resume practice till all of the players test negative after completion of the quarantine period. This means even if all goes well, CSK can resume practice only by the middle of the next week.

It was expected that the much-delayed IPL schedule would be announced on Saturday, but now, according to a report by Times Of India (TOI), the schedules and fixtures announcement may get delayed further due to the turmoil inside the CSK camp.

“Adequate measures are in place to tackle the situation and there is no immediate threat to the tournament. But the announcement of fixtures has been delayed because of this development,” a top BCCI source told TOI.
