The International Cricket Council (ICC) has initiated a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the production and distribution of live streams to more than 500 ICC Pathway matches.
The ICC wants to ensure coverage is in place for the matches to be played up to the first quarter of 2023, so that it can then commercialise the streaming, event sponsorship, fantasy and data rights to the events, reports SportBusiness.
The events that fall under the ICC Pathway umbrella include regional qualifying matches for both the men’s and women’s T20 World Cups, the Cricket World Cup League 2 and Challenge Leagues (which serve as qualifying events for the Cricket World Cup), and qualifying matches for the Women’s Cricket World Cup.
The deadline for streaming providers to submit proposals to the IBC, the ICC’s commercial subsidiary, is December 14. Enquiries and requests for clarification must be submitted by December 7. The successful bidder will be tasked with the production of live streams with English-language commentary, the creation of a basic statistical graphics package and data feed, plus the distribution of the live streams globally.
In going to market, the ICC will be looking to maximise the increasing value of the fantasy sports market. Among the leading players in the sector has been Indian fantasy sports platform Dream11, the new title sponsor of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and also a major sponsor of the European Cricket League.
The RFP is one of the first projects to be overseen by Sunil Manoharan, who recently joined the ICC from India-based pay-television broadcaster Star TV as vice-president of media rights.
